DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A jury is expected to begin deliberations on Friday in the case of 4 people who attempted to arrest former White House adviser Karl Rove during a fundraising appearance earlier this year in Iowa.
Facing charges of trespassing are retired Methodist minister Chet Guinn, two members of the social welfare
Nov 21 · While today is not officially Turkey Day, I will warn you in advance that it's going to be a theme running through today's column, like gravy through a poorly-constructed dam of mashed potatoes. So to speak. And yes, this will include discussion of the recent Sarah Palin video, but before we get to that, we've got other turkeys to deal with first.
Ben Franklin notwithstanding (who suggesting among other things that the wild turkey was a more appropriate symbol for America than the bald eag

Nov 21 · The issue of homelessness is dire, and the solution is low-income housing. This is not a high-visibility issue, and it's important to let the Obama administration know that low-income housing desperately needs attention.
Please read through the facts about low-income housing below, pick one or two facts that you see as important, and write one or two sentences about it to the Transition Team at:
Then, please pass this on to friends, family and anyone you can think if in order to take acti
Nov 21 · Nadler Introduces Resolution Opposing Possible Bush Pardons of His Own Subordinates for Crimes He Authorized

Here's a resolution, hot off the presses from Jerrold Nadler, Chair of the Constitution Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee: H.RES.1531, "Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the President of the United States should not issue pardons to senior members of his administration during the final 90 days of his term of office," Sponsor: Rep Na
Nov 20 · I am a little surprised at the "get on board" and "fall in line" stuff from a bunch of activist Democrats.
I want to make it clear that I do wonder about some of the choices, and some of the obvious omissions. I don't see anything wrong with that at all.
One example:
The new HHS Secretary, Tom Daschle, has views about women's right that disturb me. The general consensus is that he is pro-choice, but that does not seem to be so in the past.
Here is a video posted on You Tube las
Nov 19 ·
I know this is long, it is not edited because I don't want it to be lost in the night.
I wrote it because Michael Moore's fervor inspired me, and he gave me what I think is a realistic way of looking at the crisis they are grappling with in Washington today.
I was in Europe this fall and was struck massively by how they move people compared to our one and only way:
Cars.
I saw that basic cities have about 30 percent bicycle traffic.
I saw streetcars throughout, and in some areas they
Nov 20 · Madfloridian gave me the idea for this post by noting in several recent posts her concern over the pressure being put on President-elect Obama and other Democrats to be “bi-partisan”, or “post-partisan”. I share that concern (and used some of her links for this post). In fact, that may be the biggest concern I have about our next President. Of course, we do not yet know to what extent he will go to be “post-partisan”. I’m hoping it will be a lot less than some people think.
But wait! I
Nov 20 · A few brief words to put this column in context as it was published in the Santa Monica Daily Press in response to two columns the published last week (Nov. 12 and 13th). One of the columns spread right wing talking points on the bogus Berg v. Obama, with the author boasting of his devilish grin brought on by his delusions over the suit's potential success.

Nov 18 · Anti-choice groups are vowing to use these next years to grow their protests and demonstrations against choice by women in their private lives. They vow to intensify their efforts to cause problems for these women at abortion clinics.
Here are some words from Father Pavone found at Right Wing Watch:
"The election forces the pro-life movement to go back to what we do best — local grass-roots organizing," said the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition. "W
Nov 20 · Not for nuthin’, my friend, but you’re not even in office yet – and you’re already screwin’ up BIG TIME.
All that talk on the campaign trail – bladidy blah, blah, blah, blah – about listening to the voice of We, The People, and you just go ahead – without so much as a by-your-leave – and start appointing folks to key positions in your administration.
Excuse me, but where was MY vote before you started offering jobs, willy-nilly? When was MY opinion sought before you decided to staff the W
Nov 19 · Mike Huckabee has said that gays and lesbians do not need protection of their civil rights, because they have not been the victims of systematic violence like racial minorities.
I wonder what Mike Huckabee has been smoking.

There were several different kinds of triangles which the Nazis forced enemies of the state to wear. We all know about the yellow double triangle---a Star of David---for the Jews. A red triangle meant that you were a communist or political
