La Crónica de Hoy reports that on Friday, March 7th, hundreds of Mexican youths clashed in a literal war of subcultures. It seems the Metalocalypse has really begun. The battle took place around Jardín Guerrero (meaning “Warrior Garden”) in front of the Government Palace in Querétaro, Mexico. The garden is supposedly a popular hangout for local emo kids, but surely they won't be hanging out there anymore. At least four people were “officially” injured in the battle, and over twenty-five were arrested.
Supposedly, these metaleros (metalheads) and skatos (skate punks) have created a united front against emo kids—cemented by this recent blitzkrieg in Querétaro. Furthermore, the assault has been launched into the blogosphere and all are being encouraged to join the fight. Copycat violence is already occurring in other places across Mexico, such as Tijuana, Durango, Colima, Aguascalientes and especially Mexico City—home to one of the nastiest punk scenes on the planet. It has gotten so bad that the Mexican government is actually stepping in to take action, in hopes of protecting the emo kids and maybe quelling the violence to some degree. Apparently, the problem they have with emos is that they are “homosexuals” who drive away tourism. As if travelers to Mexico have never seen an emo kid before? Basically, those who are simply laughing stocks in America have now become the targets of hate crimes and subcultural genocide in Mexico. I hold more hatred for emo than all these psychos, but this is just some neo-fascist bullshit. ¡Rockeros! Luche su gobierno, por favor.
