Beastie Boy to Become Film Man

Adam Yauch, a founding member of the Beastie Boys, plans to launch an independent film distributor to be called Oscilloscope Pictures, a new branch of his already existent music and film production company Oscilloscope Laboratories. Yauch has brought on David Fenkel, former VP at ThinkFilm to tackle the business side. This venture won’t be the first time the pair has teamed up. In 2006, a film shot by audience members at a live performance at Madison Square Garden, brought the two together in Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That.

Yauch plans to attend festivals to acquire films and also provide financial backing to unfinished films. Going in to the project without any outside financing, Yauch plans to release only two to ten films in the first year and promises not to throw out huge earning guarantees to filmmakers. Despite Yauch’s claim that "We're kind of winging it," the company plans to announce its first release within a month and to have that film hit theaters by summer.
