Tristate music lovers should be excited for the very first All Points West Music and Arts Festival this summer, held at Liberty State Park, in Jersey City, from August 8-10. The festival is hosted by Goldenvoice/AEG Live events, the same company that hosts Coachella in California. Their intention is to make All Points a similar annual event for the East Coast, though without a campgrounds (no tents allowed!). In keeping with environmentally conscious Radiohead, who recently released a statement about making efforts to reduce their carbon footprint while touring, All Points West will have a recycling program, where attendees can turn in ten empty bottles of water for one full bottle. The festival will also make use of and encourage mass transit for transportation to and from the grounds. By limiting the amount of parking and offering easy, accessible alternatives to driving, carbon emissions from vehicles will be greatly reduced. Also, 2 dollars from each day's ticket will be donated to Friends of Liberty State Park, which is an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization dedicated to "the beautification and improvement of Liberty State Park." The group also advocates for an open space park, organizes gardening and other volunteer projects, and was instrumental in creating one of New Jersey's largest playgrounds and the shuttle bus system within the park. Additionally, proceeds will go towards All At Once, a social action network that provides information, tools and motivation to empower individuals to become active in their local and world community. -Amy Dupcak
