Following a standout record release performance by local favorite, Wakey! Wakey!, and his fifteen piece band is no easy task. This was exactly the challenge faced by Jukebox the Ghost , as they stepped onto the stage at Mercury Lounge with plenty to prove. Followed by a word-of-mouth hype that's been slowly spreading about them for the past few months, Jukebox presented their quirky brand of melodic, piano driven rock to mixed results.

Made up of three recent George Washington University graduates, Jukebox's pop-rock tunes are quite catchy and entertaining live. Pianist Ben Thornewill's personality adds another dimension to Jukebox's songs, while pelting away at the keys with stiff, claw-like hands. The trio put forth a set of energetic songs, with its share of standout moments, including, "Good Day" and "Hold it In." Overall, Jukebox the Ghost is a very unique sounding band, although their disjointedness can come across like a band still trying to define its style. They'll be touring all around this winter, so if you're looking for melodic pop from a group that refuses to conform to traditional songwriting methods, Jukebox the Ghost just may be the ticket for you.
